A dustball of a world located on the lawless Outer Rim, Tatooine was a harsh desert planet full of danger but little in the way of supplies. Some couldn't fathom why any anyone would choose to live there, though many beings called Tatooine home, and eked out an existance there as best they could. While not officially so, Tatooine was controlled by the Hutts. As it was too far from the Core for any serious law enforcement to be maintained there, the Hutt gangsters took over much of the planet, though they still allowed trading and moisture farming. In fact, Tatooine was notorious as a safe haven for those who did not wish to be found. Spacers, smugglers, pirates and criminals all dropped in at one of the planets spaceports to lie low or sell off their stocks. As well as the seedy spaceports and little settlements dotted around the planet, Tatooine was also housed many moisture farms and homesteads. Being as the only water Tatooie offered was under its blazing surface, moisture farmers could gather the precious liquid to either use themselves or make a tidy profit from. These farmers were usually content with their lot, and didnt aspire to much more. It seemed as if Tatooine often drained a persons enthusiasm as well as their water supply. The intense heat of the planet was thanks to its twin suns. The two G1 and G2 suns - called Tatoo I and Tatoo II - orbited Tatooine, providing its climate and its conditions for life. If the planet had not orbited in the hot inner edge of the life zone, the stars might even have provided a pleasant environment on Tatooine. As it was, many found Tatooine unbearable, though it wasn't only the heat: sandstorms and great, lethal 'sandswirls' pummelled the planet from time to time. However, little could be done about Tatooine's climate: it was thought that one of the reasons why galactic governments showed little interest in Tatooine was because of its eventual fate - when the behaviour of its twin suns were predicted to change, thus dooming the planet with even a slight change. |
