A planet shrouded in constant storms and vast oceans,
Kamino was the ideal location to hide the creation of a
secret clone army from prying eyes.

The Kaminoans prided themselves on their cloning
abilities, and maintained many facilities for their work
across the waters of their homeworld. Kamino had not
always been an oceanic world; after an ancient ice age
which forced the Kaminoans inland, a global climate
shift flooded Kamino. This Great Flood covered all land
on the planet. Luckily, the Kaminoans had already
started creating large, sturdy communal dwellings to
survive the ice age. These buildings were primitive, but
kept out predators and, thanks to their dome-like structure, shed water easily. Many other species on the planet died out in the ice age, but the Kaminoans endured.

During the Great Flood, the Kaminoans began to build upwards to avoid the water. Their communities became isolated as each moved on to find areas that had not yet been consumed by oceans. The planet's scientists knew all land would soon be gone, so even taller cities were built, echoing their ancestor's primitive homes. These stilt cities saved the Kaminoans from a watery grave. Eventually, the Kaminoans learned to find beauty in the waves and the weather.

The entire planet was always buffeted by storms or wracked by rain. The Kaminoans got used to the never-changing weather, and reinforced their cities further against natural disaster. Though the Kaminoans were isolated on their planet, they were able to visit other Kaminoan cities by aiwha; flying amphibians that could swim through the oceans or fly above dangerous waters. The Kaminoans also used aiwhas to visit the ancient sunken cities of their ancestors; though these journeys were made to honour their ancestors, and had nothing to do with the Kaminoans scientific work that dominated much of their lives.
