THE CLONE WARS |
[Begun, the Clone Wars have] |
Considered by many to be the greatest war in galactic history, the Clone Wars saw two massive armies pitted against one another in a conflict that changed the galaxy forever. The Clone Wars began after Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi investigated an assassination attempt on Senator Amidala. His search led him to Kamino, where a clone army was being created in secret. The cloners told Obi- Wan the army was for the Republic. Further investigation led to Geonosis, and the revelation that Count Dooku's Seperatist movement was preparing for war. When Obi-Wan was captured on Geonosis, and the rescue team was attacked, there was no choice but to mobilize the clone army against the Seperatists. Jedi Master Yoda led the clonetroopers to their first victory, which marked the start of the war. With the Seperatist forces - known as the Confederacy of Independant Systems - in full retreat, the Army of the Republic returned to Coruscant to be dispersed across the galaxy. With the help of the Jedi Knights, the clonetroopers defended many Confederate targets, and led sucessful strikes against Seperatist outposts. Both sides were powerful; the Republic had the advanced clonetroopers and the Jedi, while the Confederacy used sheer numbers and devious tactics to hold their own. The war continued for three years, with the Republic slowly gaining the upper hand. The Confederacy dwindled and its leaders became increasingly desperate. They knew they were fighting a lost cause; they had been all along. Finally, they were defeated in an epic last stand. The Clone Wars were over, but victory was followed by a drastic change for the galaxy which took, perhaps, an even worse toll on the galaxy...the Galactic Empire was born. |
