Ace pilot, leader of Rogue Squadron, Rebel General... Wedge Antilles was a well-known and respected face in the Rebel Alliance, though his roots were humble. Wedge was born on Corellia to Jagged and Zena Antilles. His parents owned a fueling depot on the Gus Treta Market Station which serviced the whole Corellia system. When Wedge wasn't shoveling nerf manure on a farm school on Corellia, he helped out on the space station. There, he learned the basics of piloting as he flew and serviced cargo freighters. Though he was shaping up into a good pilot, Wedge also entertained idle dreams of becoming an architect. However, at the age of seventeen, Wedge found himself working with smugglers Booster and Mirax Terrik aboard the Pulsar Skate. Wedge was aboard the Skate when tragedy struck. The freighter Buzzer docked at the Antilles refuelling station, but got spooked by a CorSec patrol. The Buzzer blasted off, but the captain neglected to disengage the fuel lines...the fuelling platform errupted in flames, taking Jagged and Zena with it. Enraged and hungry for revenge, Wedge borrowed a Z-95 Headhunter from Booster and tracked down the Buzzer, destroying it. The insurance money from his parent's station enabled Wedge to buy a used cargo freighter, and Mirax hooked him up with various underground suppliers and customers. Yet Wedge found that the work didn't pay as much as he would have liked, so he tried a new line of work. When the Alliance put out a call for combat pilots, Wedge signed up with the Rebellion's starfighter division. Wedge soon found himself as Red Two, flying up against the might of the Death Star. Though he scored numerous kills in the battle - and managed to save Luke Skywalker from an untimely death - Wedge's X-wing was damaged, forcing him to abort his trench run. When Luke destroyed the battle station, Wedge returned to Yavin IV with the two other survivors. |
