| Though Luke had found time to rest after his ordeal on Bespin, he had still not come to terms with Darth Vader's shocking revelation. He attempted to gain an insight through the Force, but always found the dark side creeping into his visions. Vader was not the only person Luke had to worry about. Prince Xizor had learned that Vader wanted to deliver Luke to the Emperor - alive. Xizor began plotting to kill Skywalker, thus discrediting Vader and securing Xizor's position as the second most powerful being in the galaxy. Meanwhile, Luke was staying in Ben Kenobi's old home on Tatooine, where he was starting to create his own lightsaber, following advice found in one of Ben's books on the Jedi of the Republic. His work was interrupted when his friends informed him they had found Boba Fett on Gall - and his cargo, Han Solo, still frozen in carbonite. A rescue attempt was launched by Lando, Leia and Dash Rendar while Luke and Rogue Squadron kept the local Imperial garrison busy. Though Rogue Squadron was able to delay the Imperials reaching the Falcon, Fett managed to elude the Rebels and blast off for Tatooine. Luke returned to Tatooine to await Fett's arrival at Jabba's palace. Just as Luke completed construction of his new green-bladed lightsaber, a swoop gang attacked him. He put his lightsaber through its first combat test, then led the gang away from Ben's home on a daring chase through Beggar's Canyon. Luke had flown through the Canyon many times as a youth, and managed to shake a few of his pursuers, though it was up to Dash Rendar to save him. Upon their return to Ben's hut, Luke and Dash came across a message pod from the Bothan, Koth Melan. He had important information for Leia, but since she was on Rodia, Luke and Dash went in her place. They ended up attacking a freighter carrying secret plans for the Empire, which were brought to Kothlis for decoding. However, before Luke could learn what they were, a group of Barabels stormed the building and took Luke prisoner. In his cell, Luke learned that Darth Vader and Black Sun both want Luke in their possession...though only Vader wanted him alive. Using his developing Jedi powers, Luke was able to mind-trick the guard into freeing him. After a fight through the Barabel prison complex - where Luke was aided by Lando - Luke escaped with his friends in the Falcon, just as Vader arrived to collect him. Once safely away from the bounty hunters, Luke learned that Leia had gone to meet with Xizor on Coruscant. The Rebels headed after her, and infiltrated Xizor's palace via the sewers. It was at this time that Luke began to consider himself a Jedi Knight, as his telepathic skills now allowed him to send a calm call for Leia, rather than the desperate plea he had sent on Bespin. Luke and the Rebels made their way towards the top of the palace, where Luke rescued Leia and confronted Xizor. Lando threw a thermal detonator into the bowels of the palace garbage system, forcing everyone to flee. Xizor escaped to his skyhook, while the Rebels took off in the Falcon after Luke had a brief fight with Guri, Xizor's human replica droid. Luke was able to match the droid's speed by using the Force. A battle above Coruscant followed, in which Xizor's skyhook was destroyed by Vader's Super Star Destroyer. The Dark Lord had learned of Xizor's treachery, although he wasn't able to capture Luke. The Rebels escaped, and Luke began to prepare for the rescue of Han Solo. |
