An elegant yet powerful craft, Count Dooku's solar sailer reflected the man himself, with its artistic design and distinctive solar sails hiding mysterious features and powerful drives.
Given to Count Dooku by the Geonosian shipwrights, the interstellar sloop was fitted with solar sails, enabling it to ride the solar winds - though more accurately it used a similar, yet more sophisticated method that remained a mystery to the galaxy. As well as this elaborate means of power, the ship did feature guidance thrusters, but for real movement it relied solely on the vast sails. And though they were vast, they were not as vast as the sails found on simpler sail ships. The levers to deploy the sail were fitted inside the bubble cockpit between the beak-like front of the ship, in which sat Dooku's FA-4 pilot droid. Behind the cockpit Dooku had various charts and starmaps installed, as well as a bunk, lockers and even a condensed databook library featuring Sith lore. The ship was not as traditional as it appeared, however; the ship possessed a class 1.5 hyperdrive and a strange set of armaments - 84 tractor/repulsor beams fitted along the bow prongs. These generators helped steer the ship, but if focused, could lock onto a ship and drag it along.
Though Dooku was offered the ship by his Geonosian colleagues, he found the sail himself. While visiting the Gree Enclave, he purchased the antique sail, and learned of its strange properties. He had Geonosian shipwrights attatch the sail to his ship, and used it thereafter. As he travelled around the galaxy often during his campaigns to recruit systems to his cause, he made sure his ship was well-equipped to suit long flights. As he could no longer access the teachings found in the Jedi Archives, he fitted a library in the ship. He used his solar sailer to flee Geonosis during the Republic invasion of the planet, and later travelled inside it during the Clone Wars. |
