Be Leery Of The U.S.P.S.
Most Americans are not aware that there is a concerted effort to make their postal service a completely privately owned business concern, and it is happening from within .... so beware.
Everyone should be leery of the PRC. I would suggest that you talk to your local postal carrier to find out what is really going on. It seems that the vast majority of commissioners are agents for big business interest. They are making a concerted effort to take the USPS private. At the same time they are reducing postal rates for big business bulk rate customers while increasing the cost to the average consumer. In 1984 the bulk rate was 4th class mail at .63 for the first pound of bulk mail (.43 if it was pre sorted), an additional .23 from over 1lb. up to 7lbs., and an additional .14 cents over 7lbs. but less than 70lbs., and the 1st class rate was .20 cents for the first ounce. In the year 2000 the bulk rate is .54 cents per pound ( .28 cents if pre sorted), and 1st class postage is .33 cents for the first ounce. The average consumer is paying for corporations to deliver junk-mail that most do not want and that most do not use!

For Immediate Release July 22, 2000
PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES GEORGE A. OMAS AS A COMMISSIONER OF THE POSTAL RATE COMMISSION :
The President today nominated George A. Omas as Commissioner of the Postal Rate Commission.
Mr. George A. Omas, of Biloxi, Mississippi, was initially confirmed by the Senate to serve as a Commissioner on the Postal Rate Commission in July, 1997, and is presently serving as Vice Chair of the Commission.
Formerly, Mr. Omas was a staff member of the Sergeant at Arms Office in the House of Representatives. He has served as Staff Director for the Committee on Post Office and Civil Service and the Sub-Committee on Census, Statistics, and Postal Personnel.
Mr. Omas received B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Mississippi.
The Postal Rate Commission (PRC) is responsible for recommending postal rates and mail classifications for adoption by the Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service. The PRC may promulgate rules and regulations, establish procedures and take any other action it deems necessary to carry out its functions and obligations. Additionally, the PRC has appellate jurisdiction to review Postal Service determinations to close or consolidate small post offices.

-----------------------------------------
The following charts show that they are planing to further reduce the rates to big business and at the same time raise the rates for the average American consumer in the year 2001!
In other words...they are going to charge the average American Citizen .34 cents to mail a letter under 1 ounce, while they are going to charge Corporate America .06 cents to mail 1 pound of mail. At the proposed rates it would cost the average person $5.44 to mail one pound (16 one ounce letters) of mail. So while the average person must pay nearly six times more than the corporations they only receive 1/16th the mailing service. Who is this benefit passed along too! Not the American People, because the rates they must pay continue to go up...and up...and up!!!
