2004 **** 106 mins.
This is a beautiful film to behold, and each of the stories are exquisitely told. However, every story is unclear in its ending and the first and last stories aren't very rich or deep. Eros is a collection of three short films. The first one is The Hand, written and directed by Wong Kar Wai. In it, we see a tailor (Chang Chen) become obsessed with a client (Gong Li); a doomed obsession, I might add. The second one is Equilibrium, written and directed by Steven Soderbergh. In it, we hear an advertising executive (Robert Downey, Jr.) explaining a dream he had to an unattentive pshychiatrist (Alan Arkin). This is the best of the three stories, and I'd give it, individually, four and a half stars. The last film is The Dangerous Thread of Things, directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. In it, we see a love triangle that may or may not be exactly what is shown. All in all, Eros is a highly enjoyable film that has its flaws.
Rated R for Strong Sexual Content Including Graphic Nudity and for Language.
