This film is bound to be the signature masterwork of its director, Richard Kelly. The story centers around a disturbed teenager, Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal, who masterfuly brings the character to a vivid screen life), who is haunted by an evil rabbit who teaches him secrets about time and tells him to do evil things. Although all the pieces come mysitically together in the shocking and emotional climax, I was left thinking, "So, what was really the point of all of that?" Nevertheless, this is still a great film with great style.
Rated R for language, some drug use, and violence.
