1968 **1/2 98 mins.
This film feels like an overly long, very badly done Star Trek episode. The story is hokey, the acting is bad, and the effects are terrible. Of course, that is what the whole film was going for, anyway. So, it does have an oddly appealing style that makes one want to watch it, even if it is terrible.
Jane Fonda plays Barbarella, a futuristic space warrior who uses sex to repay her beneficiaries. She's sent to stop a man named Duran Duran (Milo O'Shea). The opening credit sequence is notable among fans of the film.
Originally approved for mature audiences only, the 1977 re-issue was edited and rated PG. The video pictured above is the original release, but it is still rated PG. The film contains sexual content and brief nudity. If rated today, it would probably be PG-13.
