1st XI
The
Nottingham Premier league is at the top of the pyramid system for all local
cricket in the County. Since the leagues inauguration in 1999 Notts Unity are
one of only 5 sides to have been ever present, although last year we did brush
with the dreaded drop. But not all was doom and gloom. From a youth point of
view 3 of our under 15s played premier league cricket last year. Jamie
Harrison kept wicket in over 15 games, Yasser Tariq scored a premier league 50
and Husnain Riaz was blooded before the end of the season. All three will be
important members of the 1st XI squad this season, along with others if they
develop as anticipated.
2nd XI
2004 saw a
major change in the make-up of our second XI. The policy was now to blood as
many youngsters as possible and although we struggled at first, the second
half of the season provided us with a mid table finish and a last day victory
over the league winners lady Bay. This shows the potential at the club when
the vast majority of all the league games were played with 6 or 7 under 15s
and with a couple of regulars being under 13. The aim this year should be
promotion, again with a full compliment of our youth section.
2004 was
the first season for a few years that the club had fielded youth sides in the
Nottinghamshire Youth Leagues. The club has always had a good reputation of
bringing youngsters through to the county side but over recent years we have
not had the numbers to compete at various age groups. However in 2004 we ran 4
sides at under 11,13,14 and 15s. The success of the various teams was shown
in the final league tables, in which we finished runners-up in every division
except under 14s where we finished third and this was only due to a rained
off game against Gotham when we were well placed. |
