| Music is my biggest interest, and yes I even put it before my art. I play Bb mellophone, French horn, trumpet, piano, bass and a little bass clarinet. Oh, I'm a vocalist as well. My history with music is sort of interesting... if you're bored I suppose. Anyway, I wasn't in band during Jr. High, but joining color guard my freshman year of H.S. lured me into band again. (I started out on trumpet in 6th grade, and returned to band on cornet my freshman year... later I made the switch to French horn at the beginning of my sophomore year) I'm very happy I did that too, because it has become a very important part of who I am. I'm now playing among the best at TX State University, and feel very fortunate that I've been given the opportunity. My other side of my love for music is sound engineering and creating mixes from samples. I haven't done much of that lately, but engineering is something I plan to do as a hobby for the rest of my life. (I've changed my major from that to Criminal Justice - law enforcement, which is now my intended career.) As far as what I listen to goes, I've got quite a collection of music... it ranges from the Dead Kennedys and DJ Shadow to Charles Mingus and Hans Zimmer. (I wouldn't say I love all music, but I can find something good from just about every genre.) I like to think that my taste in music doesn't always reflect my personality, so much as it reflects on my experiences and influences. Much of what I listen to tells more about where I've been and who I've known, more than anything else. (That's not to say that it doesn't ever say anything about me, it just depends on the genre or the artist.) All of the songs I have on CD or on file have their own individual stories, and of course I'm the only one who can tell them. To throw out a few random artists from my current playlist, I'm currently listening to VHS or Beta, Gustav Holst, Yes, The Who, Sarah Brightman, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Fatboy Slim, Kasabian, Steely Dan, The Bravery, The Scissor Sisters, Turbonegro, and Duran Duran. The pic of me below is from the Capital City Marching Contest in Austin, TX during my Senior year in HS... yes, I am very conscious of the fact that I'm a band nerd... and I miss HS band... so there. |
