It never fails to make me laugh, the claims, some serious and some joking, that white men can’t dance. The implication being that black men have some inborn talent for dancing that white men don’t. Well, I suppose it is true if you want to call that dancing.
Call me a snob. No, please do. But I consider dancing to be an act of grace where movements of the body blend with music to produce synergistic whole. Gyrating one’s pelvis in an imitation of sexual acts is not dancing. Plain and simple.
If you want to see dancing turn off MTV and watch Fred Astaire, or the ballet. That is real dancing.
