Listen to Me and Live

One of my favorite writers in the OT is Isaiah, and especially the verses around chapter 55 just seem to resonate. I was working with the passage in preparation for a service when the first two lines of the song (and the wonderful rhyme) just insinuated themselves and would not let me alone. The first couplet also brought the music along with it (I'm grateful); the rest of the theme was not quite so easy. The first time my younger daughter played the accompaniment she complained about the weird chords -- until it resolved. My point exactly! We get our lives so messed up that resolution is hard. But allowing God's grace to work brings us to a point of resolution that is unexpected and welcome.

The song debuted as a communion table song at the Creighton - Center Parish Maundy Thursday service in 2003. It reappeared as our choir contribution to the Sing Song Festival at Randolph, NE, UMC in October of the same year.
