The UP Kappa Phi Sigma - Conservation and Development Society

UP Kappa Phi Sigma - Conservation and Development Society, since its foundation in 1961, has triumphantly upheld its mission and instilled among its members an enduring spirit of environmental activism even through the tumultuous late 60s to 80s.

What it is at present, as it was before, is an environmental group with a proactive participatory and scientific approach to environmental issues. Its concerns are not limited to disseminating information on environmental issues. Its focus encompasses government policies and alternative people's development.

An inadequacy in undergraduate manpower led to the failure of the organization to apply for recognition from 1990 to 1997. However, non-recognition did not deter its members from continuing their work.

In fact, in 1997, its efforts culminated in the formal launching of a non-government organization  the Conservation and Development Specialists Foundation, Inc. (CDSF, Inc.),  which is envisioned to be a venue to harness the expertise, skills and resources of Kappans towards the promotion of socio-ecological development. CDSF, Inc. also currently serves as a training ground for resident Kappans in environmental work.

The creation of an NGO by alumni Kappans sustains and reflects the vision of the UP Kappa Phi Sigma - Conservation and Development Society, and this sets it apart from other organizations with relatively similar inclinations.
