Wrapping it up

Congratulations! You just made it through a fairly complicated tune, setting chords and exploring theory. This tune was certainly more difficult than the vast majority of tunes you'll come across. Most tunes stay within the primary 3 chords of the key quite easily. I wanted to do a difficult tune so that you would see a variety of ways to overcome adversity. If you understand what went on here, you're surely ready to tackle other tunes on your own.

You probably noticed that selecting the chords can be a fairly creative process, and there are a lot of alternatives. I've heard it said that chord progression is one subject where you'll never get any two musicians to agree. I believe it. I would wager that if 30 people tried to set chords to Rushnychok, we'd come up with 30 different arrangements. In fact, I play it with about half a dozen different chord sequences myself, depending on my mood and the box I'm playing on. There is no absolute right or wrong way to do it, there are only ways that are better or worse to your ears (and your ears are different from mine).

Below is the way I most often play it....this is how my original arrangement evolved after a couple of years of playing. I have settled on this one as the best combination of ease of playing and interesting sounding bass (but as said, I don't always play this version). The second line of bass strikes is the way we arranged it in the example, the top row is the way I usually play it. The variations are really pretty slight.
