Fieldy gave Munky his nickname, because he would walk around bare foot in the apartment in Burbank, California, the basist thought his feet looked like monkey hands.
Munky married Stephanie Roush on January 15th 2000, the couple have one daughter, Carmella Star Shaffer born in 2001.
After a Lollapalooza show on July 18th 1997, Munky fell sick and was diagnosed with viral meningitis. His bandmates cancelled the rest of the tour, saying "it dosent feel right wthout Munky".

Munky's favourate super hero is the increadible Hulk, beacuse he gets angry and destorys things. The guitarist once dressed up as the Hulk for a Hallowen party.
Munky's older brother Patrick first introduced him into heavy music, by making him listen to 'Black Sabbath' when he was 10.
