ROHA : The point of handover from CR to KR. This station falls in the jurisdiction of CR. 200m out of Roha southwards is the start of KR territory.

This picture was taken late Nov 98 from the 2620 up MAQ - LTT Matsyagandha Express.

KOLAD : The first station on the KR from Mumbai. This station is the point where the Ro-Ro trains of the Konkan Railway load. There is a ramp that starts from outside the station, (to the left behind the camera) near a siding so that the trucks can be driven onto the train.

This picture was taken on 29 Aug 99, on my trip to Chiplun by 2619 Matsyagandha Express. Waiting for a crossing with the KR 6 Madgaon-Sawantwadi-Diva Passenger

NATUWADI TUNNEL :  Entering from Diwankhawti end (headed towards Mumbai), this is the second longest tunnel on the KR at 4.3 km

This picture was taken late Nov 98 from the 2620 up MAQ - LTT Matsyagandha Express.

CHIPLUN : One of the key towns in the Konkan, in Ratnagiri District. A beautiful town nested in a wide valley between the gentle coastal hills and the River Vashishti. A major industrial centre too.

This picture was taken late Nov 98 from the 2620 up MAQ - LTT Matsyagandha Express.

UKSHI : The station unique for being positioned between two tunnels. Ukshi II is the only tunnel on the KR to be double line with a crossing point within the tunnel. The picture is taken from the Mumbai end. If you are headed south, then the Karbude tunnel, which is the longest on KR (and IR) at over 6.5 km comes after this station.

This picture was taken late Nov 98 from the 2620 up MAQ - LTT Matsyagandha Express.

RATNAGIRI : The "Queen of the Konkan", this is the second most important station on the KR, and headquarters to one of the two divisions on the KR.

The first picture is taken from Mumbai end. The 2620 up was headed by an Erode WDM2 loco standing on PF 2. The entire station was carved out, and the station building is on top. The block bet PF 2 and 3 has the crew rest rooms, and there is a goods yard on the right with 2 platforms. (Late Nov 98)

The second picture is a view of the Mumbai end of the station from the FOB with the 2620 up on PF 2. (Late Nov 98)

A treat for any ALCO lover, Erode WDM2 16460 headed towards Ratnagiri, takes a curve on a cool, misty winter morning "smokin away". (2620 up Late Nov 98)
