Title: Shinshun Homesick Story (New-year homesick story )

During the new year vacation Karin feels bored, but she is not the only one. So her parents invited her teachers and classmates to their house for a new-year party. But while they are having a good time, Ton-chan is thinking about his home, planet Buuringo, alone in Karin's room upstairs...

At Kokubu house.

The television in the common room was playing a program. The actors said "Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu" ("Happy New Year"). Rikako, who was watching it with her husband, fed him some food. Shuuhei got some money as his new-year present, which he deposited right away in his own piggy bank. However Karin was bored. With a huge, ugly yawn she complained how boring the new year holiday was.

As she continued ranting she found out that Ton-chan was doing something. He said it was just a new year routine on Buuringo-sei while he was grinding an ink stick on a his writing kit. The kit was an apple-shaped box, complete with apple-shaped paper, ink, and brush pens. The brush pens had yellow pig heads on their ends. "It's a thing everyone on Buuringo-sei do: new year writing. Use a brush pen to write something, such as cheers for yourself." Karin thought it was nothing special, but would like to try anyway because she had nothing better to do.

As Karin wanted to begin writing her mother called from below: "Karin, telephone!" As she walked out of her room to answer the phone she thought about who might be calling her. When she thought it might be Kouichi-kun she got too excited and dashed down the stairs. She ended up falling to the bottom of the stairs and having to crawl to the phone (The way she crawls is funny).

The call was Kuroha Keiko calling from Hawaii boasting about her vacation there. It turned out to be quite provoking. In a fury she went back to her room. Ton-chan suggested her to get started on her writing. The first thing Karin thought about writing is - you bet - having a good relationship with Kouichi-kun. At that time a second phone call for Karin arrived. She said it must be another call from the annoying Kuroha. As she went answering it she looked a bit angry.

After the call Karin jumped up the stairs and into her room, looking really happy. Ton-chan asked her to write the new year words but she said it was not a time for that, patting him on his back and left him spinning in the air. It was really a call from Kouichi-kun, wanting to meet her at a temple and go worshipping. When she thought about it was the tradition to wear kimono at new year time she ran out to ask her mother for her own.

When Karin walked on the street she said she would be lucky for the year because she could spend her new-year with Kouichi-kun. When she met up with Kouichi-kun he said she looked great in kimono - so was Kashiwagi. She looked shocked when she saw Kashiwagi and Masami appeared from the temple entrance. When queried by Masami she laughed it off saying that it's good to have everyone here, when she really wanted to shed tears.

As the four entered the temple they noticed a man praying. His prayer goes, "Please bestow fortune on me. I don't ask for much. I want money; lots of money!" It was Kondou-sensei. Kashiwagi wondered what he was doing there when he should have returned to his home town for the new-year. He said he had "there were many highs and lows in one's life." Then admitted that he spent spent all his bonuses on Cutey Chao merchandises, with no money left for his trip home. They went on to make their wishes. Karin at first wished for a good relationship with Kouichi-kun. Then she overheard Mizuno's wish - seeing Buurin always - and promptly changed her wish to "Kouichi-kun would prefer Karin to Buurin."

There were dancing on the street, but it looked otherwise deserted. Kashiwagi suggested that they have a meal when Mizuno asked where could they go. But Kondou was broke, and not many shops open in the new year. At the same time Arashiyama-sensei walked out of a convenience store with the lunch he just bought himself. He met up with the fellows, and questioned Kondou's existence with a suspicious look. Then he explained, weeping, that his not returning home because every time he do his parents and relatives would ask if he had got married.

As the audiences gave Arashiyama their shares of sympathy Karin was finishing her call on a public phone. Karin announced that her mother had invited everyone to her house for a new-year party. Kashiwagi, Kouichi and Masami cheered, and Arashiyama wept again because he was touched.

So the party was held in the Kokubu house. Nanako-sensei was there as well. Karin walked around, in her kimono, preparing the food. As Kashiwagi was ready to pig out Kondou knocked off Kashiwagi's chopsticks with his own, stating that the food were not ready. Everyone was shocked to see him being so abrupt. He said he was really serious when it comes to food. So Rikako suggested him to be the guide. This settled, they began their feast.

Everyone had a good time. Karin said in her heart that she must have been really sincere when she made her wishes to have Kouichi-kun at her home. Then she overheard Kouichi discussing about Buurin with Shinichirou and Shuuhei. She switched her stance and thought that fortune was not with her.

As all these was happening Ton-chan was alone in Karin's room, looking low-hearted.

Arashiyama-sensei was commenting on Karin: "... Kokubu is very kind, and is having good relationships with everyone in class... But she is always late to class, not paying attention in class. Not doing good in class is her shortcoming." Rikako, now looked a bit drunk, tried to tune in with Arashiyama-sensei and said, "Oh yeah, and she's klutzy too. She even tripped this morning when she answer the phone..." Karin tried to stop her mother from blurting out her slips, but ended up being slapped on her head.

Then Arashiyama-sensei, who looked a bit drunk as well, suggested that they should take a look at Karin's room. Karin, afraid that Ton-chan might reveal her secret and turns her into Buurin forever, tried to stop them to no avail. But they insisted for various reasons: Arashiyama and Nanako saw this as a home visit; this was Mizuno and Kashiwagi's first entry into a girl's room; and Kondou was looking for more food.

(Commercial break)

They all rushed to Karin's room with great expectations, pressed Karin hard on the door, and ended up pushing it open.

However, they found nothing interesting, except for Kashiwagi's comment that Karin's room is cute. Kondou had a fit because he did not find any food and Arashiyama had to drag him out. So much for the expedition of Karin's room.

Ton-chan was walking alone in the street. He kicked a stone as he speak ill of his new year boredom. The rock hit Tatsumaki Gorou who saw Ton-chan running by.

In the neighbor park, besides a child's ride, was another pig-shaped kid ride. Ton-chan jumped off a nearby bush, checked that there was nobody around, and plugged his hand into the ride's two nostrils. It transformed into Ton-chan's flying machine, then opened itself. Ton-chan hopped on it, saying that he would not be lonely back on Buuringo-sei, and activated his machine...

Ton-chan was later found walking alone on the street again. He did not leave. He claimed he was only staying for his apprenticeship. A stray cat beckoned Ton-chan, but he did not respond because he didn't have the mood. Soon it was chasing after Ton-chan.

Kondou was mimicking Cutey Chao when Karin's tonpact jumped around in her kimono. She tried to sneak off but was caught by Masami. Karin made an excuse that she was going to the washroom. It was Ton-chan's mayday sounding on the Tonpact. Karin did not want to go because Mizuno was around.

Ton-chan teleported himself to the neighborhood park when the stray cat charged against him. He decided not to rely on Karin anymore. As he was setting up his one-touch house he was captured by Tatsumaki Gorou. He decided to roast him for his lunch and told his two partners to prepare for it.

Ton-chan kicked him in his nose and escaped. Gorou was chasing after him. He did not forget introducing himself like he did in episode 2.

Kondou wanted Nanako-sensei to play Cutey Chao. Arashiyama tried to pull him off out of jealousy because Kondou touched Nanako. Their struggle grew into a wrestling match. As the rest in the Kokubu house was enjoying the Tonpact sounded its alarm. Karin tried to sneak off again - and made another excuse to Masami. This time she saw Tatsumaki Gorou being beaten. This time it was real.

"Ba bi bu be Buurin!"

The match was interrupted by a bright flash. After the flash dissipated they saw Buurin taking off. Buurin flied to the neighborhood park, only to find that it was Ton-chan jumping on the Tatsumaki trio. Ton-chan made a face to Buurin and ran off. Buurin stepped on the three when she go after him. The party brigade followed Buurin to the park, seeing that Buurin was chasing another piglet. Kashiwagi and Mizuno used some soccer techniques to pass Ton-chan back to Buurin like a soccer ball.

After Nanako took care of his wounds Tatsumaki explained that he had not had good things to eat for days. Kokubu Shinichirou invited the three - and Buurin - to his party as well. Buurin said she had to bring the piglet to its home and flied off. In the air Buurin tried to reason with Ton-chan, but he teleported himself away.

Buurin flied to the balcony of Kokubu house and turned back to Karin. She was tripped by something as she walked into her room. After some furious rant she noticed that it was Ton-chan's writing kit. Then she remembered her new-year writing with Ton-chan. She didn't do it at all. Karin searched much of the neighborhood for Ton-chan, but she found nothing.

A child and his father passing by reminded Karin that Ton-chan is lonely on the earth. She kept on searching. "Ton-chan! Where are you? Ton-chan! Come back!"

At sunset the guests of the party were saying goodbye when Kouichi noticed that Karin was missing. Masami said that she would be all right. Karin entered her room exhausted when a familiar voice greeted her: "You're back. What took so long?" It was Ton-chan! She hugged Ton-chan and cried, but she then hit him hard when he said he saw everything from inside a trash bin. Tonrariaano II spoke up. He knew it was the new year that made Ton-chan feeling homesick. He then lectured to Ton-chan, thanked Karin for keeping Ton-chan from acting silly, and finally giving her a pearl as his gift to her. It flied into the Pearl Buuretto and its count became 36.

Ton-chan said he had credit for the pearl Karin got, so Karin thanked him, sort of; but she did not forget to make fun of Ton-chan's homesickness.
