Rafael Sarmiento is from Cartagena de Indias, colonial city, where people and music are the harmonious blend of native Indian, African and Spanish cultures.
In 1995, Rafael left to go to the capital city, Bogota, and work with "el Ballet de Colombia" as well as with the world-famous folkloric Colombian artist: Toto la Momposina.  In 1996, he toured with her in Colombia and around Europe.  He also participated to the recording of her album "Pacanto", which was nominated to the Grammy in 1999.
In that same year, Rafael went back to the UK to participate to the WOMAD Festival in Reading.  Since then, he has been playing with numerous bands, not only gaita but also percussion.
All the musicians are coming from Colombia.  Most of them are from the Caribbean coast, where the afro-Colombian music is originated.
Fine singer and percussionist, Alfonso de Jesus is coming from Barranquilla, well known for its carnival.  He studied music in Arts School and became a professional singing and playing mainly in salsa bands, while in Colombia.  He performed with artists such as Joe Arroyo, Juan Pia and Pacho Galn.  He left Colombia for London in 1993 to work with Roberto Pla and his Latin Jazz Ensemble.  From 1995 to 2001, he lived and played in Spain with pop bands like Danza Invisible, before coming back to London.  With kOgUI, Alfonso sings and plays guache.

Jorge Posada is a percussionist from Santa Marta.  He plays Colombian drums, timbal, congas and bongo.  After studying music in Arts School and performing with local salsa and folkloric bands, he moved to Bogota where he had the chance to be part of "el Ballet de Colombia", Juancho Torres y su Orchesta, and Los Alfa 8, to mention just a few.  He left for London in 1999, with Rafael, and his first gig in Europe was also at the WOMAD festival.  Since then he has been seen with Roberto Pla, Alex Wilson, Snowboy and many other salsa, Latin jazz or folkloric bands.  He is playing "tambor alegre" with kOgUI.
