The Seneca Park Zoo is my local zoo. We are a member to the zoo and aquarium society so we can visit it for free all year long. Plus they have fun activities throughout the year like Trick-or-treating at the zoo at night and more. You can also become a zoo parent and adobt a wild animal for as little as $30. I adopted a Polar Bear for my Mom for Mothers day.
Can I also suggest visiting the San Diego Zoo and Wild animal park. At any moment you can see a baby animal being born just a few feet away in a natural setting. I love the walk in butterfly exhibit. If you visit the website you can watch a number of animal cams. They are so fun.
