Cake
3/4 C butter/margarine or yogurt
3/4 C sugar
2 eggs
3/4 C molasses
2 1/2 C flour
2 t powdered ginger
1 1/2 t cinnamon
1/2 t cloves
1/2 t nutmeg
2 t baking soda
1/2 t baking powder
1 C boiling water
Glaze
1 C sugar
1/2 C yogurt
1/2 t baking soda
1/2 t whole cloves
1/4-1/2 C butter
Preheat the oven to 325. Beat the butter/yogurt with the sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and the molasses. Sift the dry ingredients together, then add them to the butter/yogurt-sugar mixture alternately with the boiling water. Mix just until smooth. Pour into a greased 9x9 dish and bake for 40 minutes. Meanwhile, make the glaze. Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan and boil for 1 minute. As soon as the gingerbread comes out of the oven, prick it all over with a toothpick and pour the glaze on. Allow it to set for several hours.
