Child Labor Laws- Laws that prevent companies from using children under a certain age for dangerous jobs, and keeps companies from hiring children under a certain age.

Forced labor- Forcing a person to work for little or no money.
Most children who suffer forced labor
were either kidnapped or sold to sweatshops by their parents.
Human Trafficking- The act of selling and trading people like a piece of property.
Human trafficking
still happens in Third World countries, where the people do not have much money.
Inhumane- Lack of pity and compassion.
Supervisors in sweatshops are very inhumane
towards the sweatshop's workers.
Living Wage-The act of giving workers enough money to support themselves and their families.
We wrote letters to Nike to persuade them to give sweatshop workers living wage
Minimum Wage-The smallest amount of money that a company must at least pay their workers.
Sweatshop workers do not get paid minimum wage

Oppression- An act of hardship or injustice; cruelty.

Poverty- A condition where people do not have money, or not enough money to support themselves and their families.

because the sweatshop owners do not pay them enough.
Protest- To disapprove of.
My friends and I protested
against hazardous conditions in sweatshops.
Restavec- A slave that is from Haiti.

in Haiti suffer major mental and physical abuse.
Sanitary- A clean and healthy working or living environment.
The sweatshop working conditions are not sanitary

Slave-A slave is one who is forced to work, and in an environment with mental or physical threat. They are owned or controlled by another person. They are bought and sold as property and treated that way. They physically constrained or have restrictions on freedom and movement.

in a sweatshop usually abuses the employees.
Sweatshop-A place where a person is forced to work for little or no pay. The working environment is hazardous, and the workers are treated like property, are mentally and physically abused, and live in fear.
