I entered the kitchen, knowing that I'd be sung our happy birthday breakfast song. It was a yearly ritual we shared together, but sometimes, it got annoying. I smiled and said, "Morning!" Lea looked up and said, "Morning birthday boy!" I turned around and said, "I'm going to go change my clothes, be back in a second." Lea all of a sudden started laughing. I stopped and looked around where I was standing, but nothing around me seemed funny. Finally, I asked, "What is so funny Lea?" Lea pointed at me and I carefully examined myself, only to find a big hole in the back of my sweat pants. I flushed a bright red and ran out of the room to the safety of my bedroom. Seconds later, my cell phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and saw Kelsey's cell phone number. I answered it, "Holy cow. I just had the most embarrassing moment of my family life!"
Kelsey started laughing as she said, "Spill." I explained what had happened and I could just see the way she was laughing. Probably holding onto her stomach as if it was hurting her and scrunching her small nose up, letting out her sweet laugh as she squinted her eyes.
I finally said, "It really wasn't that funny." Kelsey apologized quickly and continued the conversation, "What do you want for your birthday?" What did I want for my birthday? I hadn't even put it into consideration. I paused, deep in thought.
