Sleeping peacefully meant so much to me, it was the only time of day that I actually had to myself. It was all ruined when my little brother Timmy ran into my room, jumped onto my bed and said, "Jesse-e! Phone's for you!" I opened one of my eyes and looked at the time. Although it was only 10:30 in the morning, I was still trying to figure out who would call me this early.
Timmy handed me the phone and I tried to clear my voice, "Hello?"
A perky morning person replied, "Hey Jess! Happy Birthday!"
I rubbed the sleep from my eyes with my free hand and replied, "Thanks.
Are you coming to my party? You and your family are invited."
I knew that it was Kelsey because she was always the first to wish me a happy birthday. After a short pause, she said, "I'll ask my mom if we are. What time?"
"It's at 12:00. It's tomorrow, of course. Don't be late!" She bid goodbye to me and hung up. I forced myself to get up, although my muscles had ached from baseball practice the day before. I adjusted my sweat pants and walked downstairs to the kitchen. My parents were sitting at the table reading separate sections of the paper and my sister, Lea, was reading the comics to Timmy.
