There is a great history behind the Templar. The history is, however, shrouded in mystery, and for the most part is speculation. The accounts given are a rough estimate that has been given, derived from records, journals, and people who at some point knew one or more original Templar. This is an exert from what is considered as the best written history of the Templar.
Once, many, many decades ago, the Templar were a group of the strongest Fighters and Mages in Alleria. Originally, they were based in Zerdargia, and were used as guards in the Centrepax Wilderness, and as guides that escorted travelers, diplomats, and merchants through the wilderness. It is believed that they also had a secret agenda, which involved treasure hunting, espionage, and whatever the guild needed to serve their righteous cause. One day, all members of the guild, which was only about 10 elite fighters, were wandering in the wilderness for an unknown artifact that would aid them in the future. It was such an important artifact, that it is believed that the Fallen Archon himself wanted it, and would try to get it. Apparently, the Templar found this object! On there way back to Zerdargia, they were ambushed by someone. Most now believe it to be Jalat, the God of Death, trying to retrieve this artifact. Eight were slain by immediately, and the artifact was stolen. Two Templar were allowed to escape with their lives, but Jalat told them a chilling prophecy, that many think has come true. Only no one alive knows what the prophecy was. Most think it is about the death of a loved Emperor, the Xet Alliance and other dark groups waging war against Alleria, and the chaos that would follow. Some even believe it was the Darkening. The two survivors made it back to Zerdargia, and hid in fear of their demise, and of their fear of Jorel and Jalat! Soon, the two fled to an unknown location, and began to recruit a few more members. The two original members died decades ago, and those that remain call themselves the 'Circle of Templar'. Now, the Templar have begun to replenish the themselves, and add to it. This is that replenished guild, the Templar of Steel. Their main mission is to protect those deemed worthy of protection, kill those deemed worthy of death, and to destroy those who have rich enemies. But what of the artifact, Jorel and Jalat, the prophecy, and other such questions? No one will ever know!
