KNOWLEDGE  MANAGEMENT

"Knowledge Management caters to the critical issues of organizational adaption, survival and competence in face of increasingly discontinuous environmental change. Essentially, it embodies organizational processes that seek synergistic combination of data and information processing capacity of information technologies, and the creative and innovative capacity of human beings" - Dr Yogesh Malhotra

As per KM FAQ’s  provided by  Graduate School of Business, University of Texas at Austin :

“Any organization that can figure out how to give its people the right  knowledge they need -- at the point and time needed -- can position itself to compete more effectively and succeed much faster.

Many companies have vital knowledge resting with one individual and do little to make the knowledge more generally available.

Many companies are unaware of their own knowledge base and evidence has shown that knowledge is often lost from a company through employee attrition or related cost saving measures.

Many organizations still fail to capture, transfer and leverage knowledge effectively.

The enterprise that harnesses its intellectual capital can apply that asset to its business challenges and opportunities.”

The sustainable advantage in the organizations come from the knowledge that is collectively known, efficiently utilized and readily acquired when new.

Continuous Knowledge generation and Knowledge utilization are  the keys to success for any organization aspiring to be a technological leader.

Collaboration environment, Knowledge Base and Content Management  have been used as the basis for KM frameworks.

Knowledge Management facilitates learning and innovation and is indispensable in present day context.

Nonaka & Takeuchi in their popular book “The Knowledge Creating Company” describe the four modes of knowledge creation and its relevance for organizational performance.

KM fundamentally aims at providing the right set of infrastructure needed to tap tacit and explicit knowledge from inside and outside the organization to help it achieve its objectives.

In fact, KM justifies organizations existence and provides it the right direction.
