DEFINITION OF KNOWLEDGE

As per KM FAQ’s provided by Graduate School of Business, University of Texas at Austin :

“Knowledge is the fact or condition of knowing something with familiarity gained through experience or association.

Knowledge may also be described as a set of models that describe various properties and behaviors within a domain.

Knowledge may be recorded in an individual brain or stored in organizational processes, products, facilities, systems and documents. “

As per Paul.O.Pederson of Pricewaterhouse Coopers :

Knowledge is the integration of ideas, experience, intuition, skill, and lessons learned that has the potential to create value for a business, its employees, its products and services, its customers and ultimately its shareholders by informing decisions and improving actions”.

EXPLICIT   KNOWLEDGE

“Explicit knowledge is that which is easy to articulate, capture and communicate”.

TACIT  KNOWLEDGE

“Tacit knowledge resides in the heads of people and is gained mainly through experience. It's often personal and difficult to capture but it has the most value”.

Conversion of tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge facilitates its availability and use.
