Kathmandu Medical College (KMC), one of the reputed medical colleges in Nepal, was inaugurated on 25th of December 1997 (10 poush 2054) by the whilst Hon. Ed. Minister.
   Kathmandu University granted its affiliation on the 23rd of November 1997.
   KMC was initially managed by Charity International Nepal (CIN) but on the 1st of May 2000, its management was transferred to the Kathmandu Medical College Pvt. Ltd., promoted jointly by three institutions and six individuals who committed to developing health education and facilities in Nepal.

Mission
   The primary objective of KMC is to provide quality medical education within a modern academic environment to produce qualified medical professionals who can contribute to the larger society by means of their knowledge, attitude, skills and professionalism. KMC follows a student centered curriculum that is community based as well as problem and need based.
   KMC aims to develop into a center for excellence, setting new standards in medical education and high quality medical care.

   Kathmandu Medical College functions from two complexes- basic science at Duwakot and clinical science at Sinamangal.
Prof. Hemang Dixit is the Principal.

Basic Science complex
   The college has acquired 84 Ropanis of land at Duwakot, Bhaktapur where it has constructed a spacious four storey Basic Science building consisting of boys’ and girls’ hostels. The Duwakot site also consists of a Community Hospital with a 100 bedded facility. The complex also houses the academic and examination section, lecture halls, library and canteen.
KMC aims at starting a Nursing College from the academic session of 2006.

Clinical Science complex
   Located at the heart of the city (Sinamangal) this complex consists of three multi-storied buildings. The academic complex, in addition to the KMC teaching Hospital, also houses the academic and examination section, lecture halls, library and canteen. A separate building houses the centre of Eye, Dental, Dermatology and Psychiatry. Physiotherapy is in another building.

The first batch of Kathmandu Medical College graduated during June/July 2002 from an examination conducted under Kathmandu University.
