~THE COMBAT RIFLE~
The most basic and essential tools of freedom for the American Militiaman are the Combat Rifle and the Combat Carbine. Use what you have, or whichever is best suited to the mission at hand if you are fortunate enough to have both. Without getting into details at this time, a Carbine is just a shorter and lighter type of Rifle.
Military Rifles and Carbines are of course the best choice for the militiaman; they are built for the purpose intended. Military weapons tend to be more rugged, and less prone to failure under tough conditions, and often have higher magazine capacity and quicker reloading capability. In addition, the ability to add a bayonet is a real bonus not to be ignored.
If you already own or can afford to buy a Military Rifle that is great; if not, then do not count yourself out. If you already own a "deer rifle" then you are an American Rifleman, and an armed militiaman. If your trusty "deer rifle" is of a standard military caliber (.30-06, .308 or .233, etc.) that will make it much easier and cheaper to stockpile ammo. Military surplus ammo is readily available to the "civilian" at much lower prices than non-military calibers, and in bulk quantity. None the less, if what you have is a .30-.30 lever action "deer rifle" and you simply cannot afford to buy a military rifle at this time, then the ole thurty-thurty becomes your "military rifle" - stockpile some ammo for it. (At least 200 rounds).
~GOOD MILITARY RIFLES~
Any modern (World War II onwards)Military Rifle in good condition, firing the larger common military calibers.
1. .30-06
2. .308 (7.62 X 51)
3. British .303
4. 8mm Mauser German K98
[7.92mm] bolt action.
5. .50 Caliber (Sniper Rifle, for special purpose.)
...are good choices in Military Rifles.
~THE COMBAT CARBINE~
In regards to Military Carbines, we would advise going with either of the following calibers:
~MILITARY CARBINE AMMO~
1. .223 Ammo (5.56mm)
2. 7.62 X 39 Ammo
Many soldiers and militiamen consider the above two calibers to be Rifle Ammunition and NOT Carbine Ammo. If you want to call your SKS, AK-47, or your M-16 (AR-15) a RIFLE, that is OK, no problem. However, if you are ever engaged in a firefight at 600 yards armed with one of these smaller caliber spitting weapons, against men armed with .30-06's and .308's you will soon be faced with the reality you do NOT have a Rifle, but are armed with a CARBINE. This fact can also be effectively demonstrated on the target range, where a good .30-06 in the hands of a good rifleman has an effective range of 1000 yards. The Carbines do not come near that.
None the less, MILITARY CARBINES ARE GOOD WEAPONS and play a prominent role in the American Militiaman's arsenal.
The Carbine Ammo is cheaper, smaller, and lighter in weight. This allows you to buy and stockpile more of it, carry more of it into battle, and fire more rounds in battle. It also allows you to practice more shooting, and become more skilled with your weapon, than does the higher priced ammo; unless of course money and cost are no problem to you at this time. The COMBAT CARBINES are very effective "military rifles" at shorter ranges, out to about 400 yards; and a lot of fighting is done at under 200 yards. THE MILITARY CARBINES ARE OUTSTANDING at 200 yards and under.
The Main point is get armed, and stay armed!
STOCKPILE AND KEEP ON HAND A BARE MINIMUM OF 200 ROUNDS OF AMMO FOR EACH CARBINE AND, OR RIFLE YOU OWN. ALSO A MINIMUM OF 50 ROUNDS AMMO FOR EACH PISTOL OR REVOLVER.
