Cappadocia Bas Gideon
Cody is not only my friend, but also my guardian.
This love affair with the Anatolian Shepherd Dog all began in 1995 when after considerable research into may different breeds of dogs we decided to continue further into finding the new addition to our canine family that was to replace our beloved
Snoopy.  As we had only seen the Anatolian in books, we did not know who to contact regarding this breed. We were not aware that it was in fact a rare breed here in Australia, and eventually rang the Dog Welfare Home, hoping to find one that needed a good and loving home.   Luckily for us,  they told us of a breeder not far from us, who was very involved in the Rescue of dogs, and it was from here that we met with  Maureen and John Charnstrom
of Cappadocia Kennels.
They invited us to visit, and see the dogs, and they were more than what we had hoped for.. We realised that we were not going to get a puppy that easily, and over the next year, read all we could about the breed...... We were there at the Adelaide Royal Show, when  both of Maureen and John's Dogs won over the other Anatolians, and were so proud that these were the prospective parents of our new baby to be.
Christmas 1995 was extra special with the news and first photo of our new baby
Of course it was hard to tell by this scan what he would look like, but never the less it was to us, the beginning of a long wait.....
We received our phone call very early of the morning of the 26th January, 1996, and the whole family went to visit the new family.
On that first day we met other new Mums and Dads, and over the next 8 weeks we regularly got together  for a BBQ at Maureen and John's house while we OOOh'd and AAAAh'd over our new babies.
Cody with his new human sister and brother
On his arrival home, Cody soon fitted in, and we would meet once a week with his other brothers at the local doggy park,  and it was interesting to watch them grow. Of the litter there was only 2 that were short coated dogs,  so watching them mature with their magnificent coats was a pleasure. Because of other commitments it was not possible for us to  do weekly dog obedience, but Cody always was a very respectful and loving dog... Except for his dislike for cats,  he is faultess in manners and temperament.
This year we intend to be late bloomers into the show world, and hopefully he has some success in the ring.  BUT regardless of being a winner of a loser in the eyes of the judges.  He will always be the WINNER and PICK OF THE LITTER  in our eyes.
