| Those Pesky Germs! |
| Introduction: This purpose of today's activities is to continue to build a foundation for conceptualization of the problem concepts. Objectives: * The learners will watch a video in order to build a foundation for conceputalization of the problem concepts. *The learners will complete a simple experiment to visualize germs on their hands and the importance of proper handwashing. Main Activity (Whole Group): The learners will watch a video, Germs and Disease. Guided Practice and Extended Learning: The teacher will complete a simple experiment with the learners. To help students visualize germs on their hands, place a small amount of vegetable oil on the students hands and sprinkle cinnamon on their palms to represent germs. The teacher will then ask the learners to wash their hands with cold water only. Students should then observe that the germs remain on their hands. The teacher will then ask the learners to wash their hands with warm water and soap. Students will then observe that the germs easily wash away.
