ONE (FROGGY) STEP FORWARD
by Leni
Buffy leaned against Angel, regarding the newcomer carefully. She showed the woman to the
couch, nodding when her visitor waved off her offer of water.
Faith only smiled as she sat on the couch, immediately beginning to talk about her latest
trip to Indonesia. She'd brought one more Slayer and left another three under their
parents' care (with a Vigilant around in every case, of course). Buffy nodded and hmmm'ed
at the right places, knowing that her boyfriend wanted Faith to feel welcomed.
She didn't let that sigh escape.
It had been Angel who had invited the brunette to their home. He'd consulted it with her
first, of course, and Buffy couldn't in good conscience deny the younger Slayer entry to
her house. Because Faith was good now, no evilly-evil-deeds in her daily routine. They'd
made peace and fought together in three Apocalypsis and 'Really, B., for how long will you
keep it against me?'
Buffy furrowed further into Angel's arms, that alone making a small smile appear on her
lips. She was determined to keep it for Faith's sake. Buffy was aware that now the smile
didn't quite reach her eyes, but she was trying! It didn't slip even when Faith laughed at
one of Angel's jokes. Okay, was that suspicious or what?
Angel drapped an arm around her, patting her shoulder placatingly. Buffy breathed deeply
and kept smiling. Her smile became a real grin when Faith brough out a large album.
"Oh! You remembered!"
Faith chuckled. "After you almost hit Xander for not bringing it last time, I thought
it'd be safer."
Buffy smiled at the memory, but her eyes were focused on the book in Faith's hands. It was
the silent testimony of the five years Xander had travelled around the world. She couldn't
wait to get her hands on it, wanting to see all the pictures of exotic places her friend
claimed to have taken. She squirmed in Angel's grasp, trying to lean forward to take the
album. "Gimme!"
Her boyfriend laughed behind her, letting her free and laughing even harder when she
practically jumped to her prize. Buffy was already looking avidly at the pictures. After
some seconds, she raised her head to question Faith. "Oh, where's this?"
Faith looked at the scene, then blushed slightly. "One little town in Colombia. We
stayed the for a couple weeks after we... you know."
Buffy's lips set in a thin line. Oh, she knew. She knew it too well. Sometimes she could
laugh at the irony of her - her! - begrudging Xander's choice in girlfriends.
She flipped to the next picture.
Blinked.
Then blinked again.
Angel's loud laugh at her side told her she wasn't having visions.
Even Faith chuckled a little. "Hallowe'en in Texas. Oops, how did it get there?"
She winked at Buffy. The blonde couldn't help but smile back. She looked back at the
picture and snickered. Xander was there in all his glory. Very green glory with an
enormous furry head and gloves and shoes that were unproportionally large. Buffy shook her
head. Only Xander... "Do I want to know why he dressed like that?"
Faith smirked and crossed her arms over her chest in pride. "Lost a bet."
Buffy and Angel looked at her in expectation.
"Said he could repair the broken car in one evening." She grinned wickedly.
"Turns out he couldn't."
Buffy remembered Xander's infamous roadtrip in highschool, how the car had been totaled
before he'd even left the state. Then tried to picture Xander desperately trying to repair
one while Faith dangled a frog costume before him.
She laughed again.
