DISCLAIMER: Oh no, don't look at me!
SUMMARY: Fate. Chance. Is there really a difference between them?
WORDCOUNT: 600
DEDICATION: for Sharon. Because it's her birthday and I love her a lot. I tried to write a 'Ask. Seek. Knock' puppy which has been been biting at me all week, but I never found the time for it. *pouts* I'll write it later, I promise.

BOUND

Fate and Chance, daughters of Chaos, wanted to play.

Sneaking into their father’s chambers, Chance closed her eyes and dove into his secret vault. When she came back there were two essences in her hands.

One was gold and quartz, red running like blood drops over it.

The other was sapphire and silver, shades of blue and grey intermingling constantly within.

Fate looked at them studiously and sighed. Not soulmates, that would have been too easy. But when one glowed, the other responded in kind. That was unique. Not soulmates, but maybe something better.

Definitely a good game to play.

---

They run with them to the nursery, throwing the window wide open.

Chance took the golden one, air-kissed it and sent it flying downwards.

Fate was more careful, making sure there was an adequate vessel for it before taking her ward personally to it.

They met, of course. Fate brought them to a market place of a city that nobody even knows once existed. Chance made his coins roll to her feet.

He looked at her and didn’t recognise anything but a stranger. But there was something...

They never discovered it. Different languages and different customs.

It wasn’t time yet.

---

Chance loved to play with them.

Different status, countries and kingdoms. Opposite beliefs, morals and loyalties. Once he was lean, redheaded and dark-eyed. Next the girl was tall, brunette and with dimples on her cheeks.

Chance took her time, always aware that it’d be only a lifetime before she had to begin again.

Fate brought them together each and every time.

They met in Greece, Constantinople and Egypt.

They met in Australia, Italy and Peru.

Their differences slowly learned to fit together over the centuries. But there was always something lacking, something that refused to work.

It wasn’t time yet.

---

They watched as he smirked, staring impudently at the pretty redhead walking down the street. She was a stranger in this town, only coming because her aunt passed away and her father didn’t trust anybody else.

A cat meowed right behind him and the girl turned around.

Green met brown and Liam was lost.

Chance rubbed her hands together and crossed her fingers. Maybe this time...

Fate only shook her head. She had done as promised, making her come, but...

Unique, she had called them long ago. In this lifetime they’d begin to prove their worth.

It wasn’t time yet.

---

Chance threw a fit when she learned the truth. Every essence at his disposition and their father had to choose those two?

But she was stubborn and wouldn’t let go. She begged and pleaded until her sister finally agreed.

Fate brought him to France, a little village just south of Calais. He didn’t understand her words, but he never minded when he kissed her. He didn’t kill her either, and Darla frowned upon that.

She sent a minion after the girl the following night.

Chance swore cold vengeance to the vampire, but understood the message anyway:

It wasn’t time yet.

---

Chance did the best she could under the circumstances: Good home, good family and an appearance that belied the power gifted to the girl.

Fate arranged for her protegé to be assigned to protect her.

Both watched as he found her all over again. He wouldn’t be a lost cause for her.

They smiled when they first kissed in this lifetime. She accepted him unconditionally.

Chaos always came in and they couldn’t stop him.

But after so long the sisters finally glimpsed what they had always wanted their favourites to become.

Not soulmates, something better.

Unique.

It was time already.

The End.
