What is a "Learning Style"? |
Everybody has a personal learning style. It's how you learn best - in the classroom, as you study at home, when pursuing a hobby, or in any other educational aspect of life. |

The four main learning styles that will be covered throughout this website are the auditory (verbal), kinesthetic, visual/nonverbal, and the visual/verbal. The topic of learning styles ranges far outside of this, however. For example, Dr. Howard Gardner has published information on Multiple Intelligences, some of which I have included. |

What we must remember when considering this information is that learning is complicated. As tutors, we can't just assume everybody fits nicely into a category; after all, when are people ever simple? The purpose of this site is simply to provide suggestions that may make learning easier. |

How does this relate to tutoring? Well, if you have ever tutored, you know it is often hard to help someone else learn. If you feel it would be helpful for you to know your tutees' learning styles, please see "What Style Am I?" and refer them to the free online quiz. It is also important for us tutors to realize our own styles, as they may make teaching easier and more fun. Follow the "Testimonies and Interviews" and "Personal Experience" links to see exactly how this has helped real tutors just like you! |
