the last day Spring 2001 Theres a bee hovering very near the sidewalk Its hot and sunny, an exciting day The last day of classes Not straying further than an inch from the baked ground Cars fume past Music hums in my earphones Shaking, swaying, buzzing, this large bee Bizarre musicis this Indian? A group called Dead Can Dance The bee staggers in apprehension as people stroll by Yet stays dedicated, not leaving his post His resumed faithful attention catches my own When I sit down about three feet away I see the object of his concentration He beckons a second large bee lying on the ground Come on, Im waiting Come on Little twitching legs beneath a hovering shadow flag death It has already been an hour I wonder how long hell wait |
