While this page will serve as an FAQ section for various
matters related to the Curio and Relic Collector Federal Firearm
License, it will also serve as a sort of catch all to legalistic
stuff. I will not indulge in propaganda for any viewpoint here.
What matters are the facts of the issues and, where murky,
reasoned discussion of those issues and pertinent facts.
(1) You can link to the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms' information at this link ATF's Web site. When you get there hit ''Core Areas'' then ''Firearms'' and follow the sitemaps.
(2) Here is the CURIO AND RELICS LIST ACCORDING TO BATF I have broken it into an intro and four other parts to try to make it a bit easier to navigate. Current to June, 1998.
(3) For information about the upcoming National Instant Check System required under the Brady Bill and effective during the Fall of 1998, try the FBI at National Instant Check System and related documents.
(4) Want an intelligent, well thought out, highly annotated discussion of the Second Amendment from a known authority on Constitutional Law? Try The Embarassing Second. Amendment. The intro may be a bit politically oriented, but you can skip those two paragraphs and get straight to the article.
(5) Here is an excellent article by Jim Jeffries, a former Justice Department attorney regarding When the BATF Comes A'Calling.
This section is collected from numerous
discussions of various aspects of federal C&R regulation as
have gone on between collectors.
Having said that, we will proceed immediately into

The Waiting Part-- I've sent the
application. NOW WHAT?
** There is a discussion here about
whether or not one must log firearms owned prior to licensure
into the required 'bound book record'' upon receiving a new
C&R license.
* What the hell is a business?
* Many C&R holders seem to be confused about whether or not a
firearm purchased ''off-license'' (in home state or private
transaction) must be logged into the ''bound book'' record. This
letter exchange with BATF will answer that
question.
It also contains further elaboration on the selling and trading
of unwanted firearms out of your collection.
* A letter from BATF answers the ever popular question If it's over 50 years old, is it
automatically a C&R? (Here's a hint-- the answer starts
with a letter that comes AFTER the letter L.)
