"The Primus wants a suicide 'mech!"
In 2790 Ishitandai MechWyrks was comissioned to design a battlemech to be used in the last line of defense in case ComStar was attacked. The design called a 'mech that could drop from a hiding place into a group of enemy 'mechs. Speed and mobility were not a concern, only firepower mattered. There was no discussion as to whether the 'mech should drop into or behind a group of 'mechs, because ComStar refused to discuss any battle tactics. When Ishitandai MechWyrks offered a design with machine guns, the Primus was outraged. It took several days to convince him that, although they did little damage, they were excellent weapons for the purpose for which the 'mech was intended. Machine guns could devastate 'mech support units and, since they generated no heat, could be constantly fired upon enemy 'mechs, disorienting their pilots.
