As an alternative to the UDM-6 class Six-Shooter 'mechs,
Ishitandai released the unwieldy Bulldog Holdout. Any one of this
'mechs huge cannon could easily wipe out a light 'mech in a
single shot. The soft backs of most 'mechs would provide almost
no protection. Even the heartiest of assault 'mechs attacking
head-on would be ripped to shreds by the combined firepower. The
Bulldog Holdout had the mettle to take down several 'mechs at
once.
Since this was a commissioned design, very few were produced
outside of the original orders. ComStar was not yet a key player,
but did need to garrison its vital installations. Although the
Primus would have rather kept the design secret, mass producing
100 ton behemoths was difficult to hide. The lure of "lots
of big guns" caused the entire production line to sell out
completely. These 'mechs are rare, being hidden by ComStar and,
until the recent re-awakening, nearly unservicable in the field
due to the Star League design. The COM-AC was designed to fire
its weapons in pairs, but did allow for 1 alpha strike without
shutting down the reactor. If necessary, the COM-AC could aim its
arm-mounted cannon backwards thanks to the 360 degree rotation
system at the shoulders.
ComStar officials inquired into removing the jump jet to provide
a little more armor, but designers noted that the extra armor
would probably have to go to the legs to help the 'mech survived
an uncontrolled leap to the ground. Leaping down without jets
would almost certainly cause the 'mech to fall leaving it
helpless. Ishitandai MechWyrks did mention that the 'mech could
crash through a wall at street level, since a ramp cabale of
supporting a 100-ton battlemech would take too long to deploy.
The designers also pointed out that an unarmored wall might be
uncovered by stray fire as the battle progressed onto a base.
Of the few COM-AC Bulldog Holdouts that exist today, very few maintain their original configuration. Most mechwarriors have removed at least one autocannon (which offers a source for spare parts). While some have mounted long-range weapons like missiles and PPCs, many have been outfitted with shorter-ranged weapons to maintain the role of bushwhacker. Shorter-ranged variants usually have the Guardian ECM Suite installed to foil enemy scanners.
While ComStar never "officially" deployed 'mech forces, except in the protection of its most key sites, several of these BattleMechs are rumored to be cached in Unity City, perhaps long forgotten by ComStar.
