Now that the American Revolution began, there were the colonists fighting British soldiers without the desire of independence. In May of 1775 there was an army by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold that seized British garrisons at Ticonderoga and Crown Point. A loss for the Americans was at the battle of Bunker Hill.
In this bloody battle, American soldiers attacked the Britons in Boston. Sadly, for the British, they decided to launch a frontal attack of three thousand men. The Americans were armed and ready and in the end of the battle, the Americans have killed so many redcoats. The only blunder was the limited amount of colonial gunpowder, and due to this fact the Americans retreated and the British won but at a huge bloody cost.

One month later, in July, Congress passed a declaration of American royalty to the British empire in the “Olive Branch Petition.” In response to the petition, King George III blatantly refused to consent and he declared that the colonies were in revolt. The king also dispatched thousands of German warriors to defeat the rebels.
After Bostonians evacuated Boston, British soldiers used New York as a strategic base with thirty-five thousand soldiers while Washington’s army had eighteen thousand soldiers. Hardship came like an epidemic at the Battle of Long Island for the Americans. Washington and his army went through hell in the harsh winter of 1777-1778 at Valley Forge.
Many soldiers died of cold and starvation. Those who managed to survive were forced to cook and eat their own boots. Eventually, however, Washington was able to cross the Delaware River and take over the Hessian camp on Christmas Eve.
