What are my coverage options?

You can think of auto insurance as helping to serve a few basic needs, and that’s how this information is split up. Plus, you can find some key considerations when selecting the best limits and deductibles for your situation. Or, find Motorcycle Coverage details.

Protect yourself and your family*

Protect your car*

  • Collision Coverage – typically helps pay to repair or replace your insured car after a covered accident.
  • Comprehensive Coverage – typically helps pay for covered damages to your insured car resulting from a peril other than a collision, such as theft, windstorm or flood, to name a few.
  • Find out more about limits and deductibles. And, finally there are even more options to help you tailor your coverage.
  • Now it’s time to get a quote!

What are my coverage options?  Liability Coverage

Liability coverage typically helps to provide you with peace of mind. Why? Because it helps protect you from covered damage your car does to others…damage for which you are legally liable.

Liability – Who’s typically covered:

  • You, family members or relatives who live with you when (1) driving your car or (2) driving other cars with that vehicle owner’s permission.
  • Other people driving your car when you’ve given them permission.

Liability – What’s typically covered:

  • It pays for you (and those covered by the policy) for legal defense costs, cost of bail bonds, and emergency first aid to others.
  • It pays the people you’ve injured for property damage, loss of services, bodily injury, sickness, medical services, disease, loss of income and death.

What are my coverage options?  Medical Payments Coverage
Medical Payments Coverage typically helps protect you, covered passengers and covered family members. It provides payment for reasonable and necessary medical treatment for bodily injury caused by a covered accident, regardless of who was at fault. That treatment includes, among other things, x-rays, surgery, ambulance, physicians, hospital, and funeral expenses.

What are my coverage options?
Underinsured/Uninsured Motorists Coverage

This typically helps cover damages to you and your property (the property damage coverage is not available in all states, including New York) caused by another driver who doesn’t have insurance (uninsured) or doesn’t have adequate insurance (underinsured) to cover your damages.

  • Underinsured/Uninsured Motorists Coverage for Bodily Injury will typically protect you, covered passengers, and covered family members for bodily injury resulting from a covered accident caused by an uninsured or underinsured driver.
  • Uninsured Motorists Coverage for Property Damage (if applicable in your state) will typically pay for covered damage to your insured car caused by an uninsured auto.

What are my coverage options?  Personal Injury Protection
This typically provides coverage for an insured person for certain reasonable and necessary expenses. The types of expenses vary by state. Some examples of typical expenses include: medical and hospital expenses, income continuation, loss of services, funeral expenses, and child care expenses for bodily injury caused by a covered accident, regardless of who was at fault. It’s only available in certain states.

What are my coverage options?  Collision Coverage
This coverage typically pays for damage to your car as a result of a covered accident with another car…or a covered collision with most anything else (e.g. a tree). This coverage provides for the repair or replacement of your insured vehicle, up to the Actual Cash Value of the vehicle. Actual Cash Value takes into account depreciation of your car due to: age, use, and wear and tear.

What are my coverage options?  Comprehensive Coverage
Comprehensive Coverage typically covers damage to your insured car not caused by collision (a covered accident with another car). This coverage typically includes, among other things, damage caused by falling objects, fire, theft and vandalism, explosion, earthquake and more.

What are my coverage options?  Limits and Deductibles

Within certain constraints, you set Limits and Deductibles when deciding your coverage.

  • A Coverage Limit determines the most an insurance company will pay for a covered loss under a particular coverage. Some limits apply to each person, and others apply to each occurrence. Keep the different limits in mind as you make your coverage choices.
  • The Deductible is the amount of the loss you’ve agreed to pay out of your own pocket before an insurance company will pay for a covered loss. Things to consider:
  • The higher you set your coverage limit…the higher your rates, but the greater amount of protection you have.
  • The higher you set your deductible…the lower your rates, but the more you’ll have to pay out of your own pocket.

What are my coverage options?  Other Options

You can help tailor your coverage to help fit your particular needs. Here are some of those options.

  • Towing & Labor Costs*
This coverage will typically reimburse you (up to the applicable limit) for your necessary towing charges should your insured car become disabled.
  • Rental Reimbursement*
If your car’s being serviced or repaired due to a covered loss, you don’t have to be without transportation. This coverage typically will reimburse for your costs of renting a car from a rental agency or garage – up to your coverage limits.
  • Tape/CD Coverage*
If you often carry a collection of tapes or CDs in your car, you might want to opt for this coverage. It typically will pay to replace your tapes or CDs should they be damaged in or stolen from your insured car as a result of a covered comprehensive loss.
  • Sound System*
Are you concerned about protection for damage to your car stereo? If so, ask your agent about the Sound System coverage to protect your investment.
