...The Black-hole generator throbbed in its containment sphere up ahead;periodic exotic particle leakage lit up the cavernous dome and reflected on the coolant channels down below.It was cold and damp.The air had an ionized taste like just after a thunderstorm.The graveyard shift just started and sleep was already getting to me.
I had to stay sharp on my watch.Since they installed the new PSX2s after RECENT DEVELOPMENTS, security had been beefed-up to prevent possible infiltration and MODIFICATION of the core systems...hell,a third party access to theINSIDES OF A PSX2 gave the corporate honchos nightmares .Its SPECS were a closely guarded secret.Something sloshed in the water down below.I was used to the sounds of this huge dome and knew instinctively that something was amiss.I swung my torch down going for my sidearm.

She had some sort of a tracking device in her hand and nothing much else.Water ran down over her body and she glistened in the light. My sidearm felt heavy in my right hand.I played the beam over her to see more clearly.Her eyes shone with a disturbing brilliance."Get out of the water and slowly put that thing down".I wanted to sound menacing but the shock of discovering a woman at this hour of the night made it less convincing. She just smiled.
