| This WebQuest is designed for a seventh grade Social Studies class. The Massachusetts State Frameworks require a unit on Ancient Greece (500 BC to AD 500). When embarking upon this WebQuest, students have already been introduced to the governments of Athens and Sparta. This lesson is designed to increase their understanding of the cultural differences between Sparta and Athens. It also brings to life the distinctions between the different social classes in ancient Greece. Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Framework Grade 7 Learning Standards 7.6 Identify the characteristics of civilizations: d) the existence of social classes 7.26 Compare and contrast life in Athens and Sparta. (H) 7.27 Describe the status of women and the function of slaves in ancient Athens. Massachusetts Recommended Pre-K-12 Instructional Technology Standards Standard 3: Demonstrate ability to use technology for research, problem-solving, and communication. Students locate, evaluate, collect and process information from a variety of electronic sources. Students use telecommunications and other media to interact or collaborate with peers, experts and other audiences. |
