October 31st, the night before venturers, and my friend calls up saying she was meant to organise venturers for tomorrow but completely forgot. Being the good friend I am, I talk to some people and try to figure out something to do that's quick to organise. Thanks to Ian, a scout leader from 1st Hartwell, we agree to do a Trade Night. At first I had no idea what it was but upon having it explained, a trade night was the perfect idea.
The idea of the trade night is this: You start off with a box of matches (another group I know started with 2 minute noodles) and proceed to your surrounding neighbourhood (or in our case, head off to the city). You ask people if you can trade your box of matches for anything they would like to swap it for. (Brendon and I asked straight out and didn't get anywhere, but when we said we were in the scouting movement and competing against others, people helped us out) Once you have swapped your packet of matches you go somewhere else and ask to swap what you currently have for anything they have.
It was a fantastic night which I believe was enjoyed by everyone. Some things which people ended up with were:
Those are just some of the things we got because I can't really remember everything. Sanity gave us alot which was really good of them.
The maniquin **again.. sp?** which Chris and Jordan got was worth about $200 and for them to get it they had to buy a $5 skirt and keep coming back to buy stuff (they plan to return it)
And the other stuff I've listed above was mainly just from people off the streets. All in all it was a great night which we plan to do again! =)
