Our Grandmaster
Grandmaster Kim, Jae Joon started his martial arts career in 1945 with Western style Boxing through the insistence of his father. The elder Kim, who was a part-time Sumo wrestler, wanted his son to learn a martial sport.

Grandmaster Kim was an eager student and had an 11-4 record on the Korean Amateur Circuit. It was then that the events unfolded that led Grandmaster Kim to his career in Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do. In his final bout, he was fighting his friend when Grandmaster Kim struck his friend and knocked him out. The boy lay unconscious for twenty minutes and Grandmaster Kim
thought he had killed him. Meanwhile, Grandmaster Kim's father was studying Sumo in Japan. It was there that the elder Kim had observed some Japanese men studying Karate and was greatly impressed. With that in mind, he stopped his son's boxing career, and enrolled him as a student in Grandmaster Hwang Kee's Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do dojang. These events led Grandmaster Kim to receive his midnight blue belt (black belt) in Tang Soo Do in 1947, receiving the Dan Number of 38 under Grandmaster Hwang Kee, the founder of Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do. Since then, Grandmaster Kim has promoted the art of Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do throughout the world. Grandmaster Kim assisted with the formation of the Korean Tang Soo Do Association in 1947. From 1955 through 1959 he was the top Master Instructor of Moo Duk Kwan in Korea.
