KIM lives in London and was chief sub for Guardian Newspapers in west Essex until mid-September 2001, before starting at the Sun Online. On finishing the DipJ course, he worked on the subs desk at the Rotorua Daily Post, before heading to the UK. Kim and Karen are trying to see other parts of Europe every other long weekend, so far seeing Dublin, Turkey, Samos and Bulgaria (above and right) among other places. In January last year Greg and Kim decided to check out the North of England - well Manchester and Liverpool anyway. It wasn't as grim as they say. Greg was very disappointed we didn't get on to the set of Coronation Street. But despite missing the Ferry, they were inspired by their trip to Scouse City and have formed a four-piece beat combo.

KIRSTY JOY BUBBLES is now MRS Kirsty Joy Bubbles - see!
The artist formerly known as Wood says: "I went to the darkside at the end of 99 (one week after getting married) and it's great - no Greg I haven't been brainwashed! I had become bored and disillusioned with journalism - may have been the company I was working for but other options didn't look more promising.
"So, I'm now a senior consultant on the consumer team of a company called PPR. There's about 22 employees here and the company has offices throughout Australia and in Hong Kong. I work on a variety of accounts including McDonald's, LEGO and United Soccer 1.
"Rob and I are frantically saving for a house - very scary in Auckland - but hopefully by the end of 2001 I should be nesting in a home of our own - though there's no mini-krustys on the way, believe me!
"Love to hear everyone's news.
"Kirsty"

Kirsty and Rach are planning a mini-reunion with Greggles and Matt in March, and Kirst's thinking about a big one in Christchurch for 2003 - for the entire class of 96. All enquiries to Mrs T.

  • Last we heard, LUKE was using the Force somewhere in the vicinity of Indonesia...

MATT arrived in Sydney a while back now to take the NSW clubbing world by storm. Young Matiu, second right for those with short memories, first took up work subbing news at a small community newspaper going by the name of The Sydney Morning Herald, and now he's back doing some finance work at the Financial News. Matt worked at the Napier Telegraph until two years ago when he up and left and found himself as a business reporter in sunny Aberdeen. Since then he's tackled the UK's national press subbing world, editing front page stories for such luminaries as the Independent, and keeping a close eye on Page 3 developments in such classy outfits as the Sun.

PETE's been in London for ages now, having come to the end of a long stint on the port round at the BOP Times. When he was still finding his sea legs in the big smoke, he suffered occasional attacks of biggirlsblousitis when he wouldn't go out for drinks with the guys (click for exception) cos he discovered a certain fluency in the German tongue. Now he's gone to the dark side - no, not PR - sales, learning how to talk shit and influence people. Hey, who are we kidding? Pete could teach them a few lessons himself. (Just ribbing you, big guy. Please put down that pitching wedge . . .) . Pet's had a marital year - he was back home in NZ for a few weeks for a mate's wedding before seven days on sunny Santorini - partaking of the local delicacies - to oversee the joining of two of our nearest and dearest. Now he's back in a new job in the Square Mile and in a new flat too! Bonjour Bro!

RACHAEL loved her time as a student at Canterbury so much she decided to work there upon her return from her scholarship trip Stateside. We're also keeping her busy getting info out of you lot for this site. The UK/Ireland contingent was looking forward to catching up with the wee wonder in November 2000. But alas - no sign of her! She is now communications manager for computer software company Niche Software. Her other new job is organising along with Joy Bubbles a wee class reunion.
RORY and Nicky are living in Opoho, Dunedin, with baby Samuel, having moved home from London in June. They were living in Wombledon, Sarf London, Rory working at Farmers' Weekly magazine. After the course in '96, Otago boy Rory moved to the big smoke - Auckland - and then the bigger smoke - Whakat'ne - working on the Eastern Bay News, and then the Daily Post in Rotorua, first as a reporter then as a sub. Then itchy feet saw him cross the globe in '99 and settle in England. After a lovely wedding on the Greek isle of Santorini in May this year, attended by whanau and friends, Rory and Nicky headed back to Otago where a job on the ODT awaited.

SARA made it halfway to England to see the exiles - she's teaching English in China.

STACEY's at the Christchurch Star, in spite of rumours she was sailing around the world on a luxury liner
