General Info

Well, here's some personal information about me... where you may or may not learn more about who I am. I love all kinds of people, activities, music, movies, food, and places.

People

It's the classic cliche, but I really am a "people person." I enjoy making new friends... at least when I'm not working (all 9 nanoseconds of it each day! ;-) I'm one of those types of people that will go to parties where I don't know anyone but the host... and meet people and have a good time. Can you say "extrovert?" I knew you could! My idea of fun certainly includes chatting with friends; sometimes over one of the microbrews that are so prevalent here in the Pacific NorthWest. But that begins to get me into activities. So...

Activities.

I enjoy traveling, and have visited (in no particular order) Ireland, England, Scotland, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Australia, China, Singapore, Thailand, India, Belize, Canada, and Mexico. I've visited most of the East and West coasts of the USA, and many other states (mostly for work).

I enjoy doing things w/my family; whether that's going for a walk, watching a video, playing on the Wii, or whatever.

I enjoy surfing the net a little too much. I also love to hike, though that's less often now. I have have been known to take long drives in my Miata just for the fun of it.

I enjoy other activies as well; I like to watch movies and listen to music-- live (symphony or "rock" concert) or not.

Music.

I like all kinds of music. I like Bonnie Raitt to Mozart to Pearl Jam to BB King to Melissa Etheridge to The Crash Test Dummies to Sting to Gin Blossoms to U2 to... well, you get the idea. Just about the only sort of music I don't really like is rap; but some of that's okay. I guess really twangy country music is out too... Even though I live out where country music seems to be king.

Movies.

Well, my favorite movie of all time is "The Princess Bride." After that, I'd say I like all kinds of genre's; science fiction, romance, drama, action, etc. Movies like Star Wars, Like Water for Chocolate, The Usual Suspects, Indiana Jones, Terminator, The Jungle Book, etc., etc., etc. (Yes, "The King and I" is included... ;-)

Food (glorious food!)

I get the 3 basic food groups in: pasta, potatoes, and pizza (Yes, Kim is a carbo junkie). I love spicy foods like Indian and Thai. A good Mexican or Texas Chili dish is fun... and so are Chinese, French, and just about anything else.

Excercise

With all that eating, it's a good thing I exercise! I used to do step aerobics... and I'm really glad to see more men out doing it. Maybe the silly stereotypes and mores of our society are beginning to give way to a more enlightened view.... Oooops. There goes the raging activist in me again. Sorry.

Celtic Ancestry

My ancestry is Celtic. I'm quite a romantic about Ireland, or most Celtic things... I'm not really religious, but I really like this Irish Blessing. I very much enjoyed my trip to Ireland awhile ago, and you can read more about it on my Ireland Trip Page.

Miata Mania

Little did I know that a car could change me as much as it has. I have been known to take long drives in my Miata just for the fun of it, to race my car, to have the wind blow through what's left of my hair... ;-)

Some Really Old Essay Q&A on Me From When I Was Dating

Describe the type of person you might be interested in meeting (either romantically or platonically). What traits do you find attractive?

I value integrity, a kind nature, a sense of humor, intelligence, attractiveness, fun... and I believe I have these things to offer as well.

What personal habits of others really irritate you?

Someone who's NOT respectful of others.

Describe your personality and physique. (...telling things photos can't tell).

I am usually very open-minded, and am looking for someone who is the same to hang out with. My personality is in general upbeat, and outgoing... and I understand wanting and needing quiet time too. One of my friends says I "ooze" charm; while I'm not sure "oozing" is good, I think the charm part can be true... ;-)

I am in touch w/my feminine and masculine sides. A blend of Yin and Yang. I'm really mostly masculine (Yang?), day-to-day, and yet have room for feminine (Yin) expression. There's a spectrum, or duality, in all of us; I try to embrace that.

What does that mean...? (Good question; I'm glad you asked! ;-) In part, it means I usually "get it" where some stereotypically feminine things are concerned, and yet can have a male energy too. I can relate to being a friend who's emotional and communicative, and be a man who sees too many men talk to a woman's chest instead of her eyes. Yet I can also be masculine and the type of guy that you have no question is a guy.

I've had several relationships in my life, and adore the feminine form... and yet I'm oriented to the person as much as, or more than, the body that contains the person.

What the pictures I have up here don't really show is that I'm 5'9", average weight moving towards slim, and maybe that my eyes have been desribed as twinkling...

Which virtues give you most of your self confidence? If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Integrity, kindness give me my self-confidence (among other things :).

If I could change one thing... physically, maybe my nose; deviated septums suck, and don't blow very well either... ;-)

Where have you met most of your current friends? Describe your social circle of friends.

I've met most of my friends through other friends, family, work, airplanes, parties, school, etc., etc., etc.! One of my friends is amazed that I can pretty much talk to anyone... :)

My social circle tends to be wide and varied. My friends include those I've met in high school, my parents, college buddies, ex-girlfriends, women I haven't dated, work associates, etc. I have a few deep, close friends, and a wider network of friends and acquaintances I keep up with.

What is your insight into spirituality, and how do you practice this belief?

I'm spiritual, yet not terribly religous. I'm agnostic (In a sorta' "Hey, God could, and probably does, exist and that's cool." way ;-) I have room for someone who's spiritual and even religous, if they have room for me. Honor diversity!

Do you belong to any organizations, clubs, teams, or special interest groups?

Yes... sort of. I'm a non-participating member of some clubs (to support them, or stay in touch), and sometimes participate too. I've served on the boards of some in the past.

Favorite pastime? Sport? Hobby? Diversion? Just what goes on Sundays at your place?

I like doing all sorts of things, whether that's talking late into the night, seeing movies, going for drives, walking hand-in-hand or other affectionate contact, listening to all sorts of music, hiking, playing pool, taking in the rose garden, miniature golf, riding bikes, etc.

I've traveled all over the world (Mostly Europe and some in Asia), and all over the US... and even though I travel a lot for work, I enjoy traveling for vacation too. I've been to Thailand, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Jamaica, Singapore, Canada, and pretty much all the US states except the midwest region and Alaska, where there's not much high-tech.

How would you characterize your political leanings? (i.e. Democrat, Republican, Reform, Libertarian, Independent, radically left/right, don't care).

I vote my conscience, on the issues, and that's usually more liberal than conservative.

What language(s) do you speak, read or write?

English, and American Sign Language (ASL)-- sort of. My mom is hard-of-hearing and I learned some ASL to help communicate with her. :)

If you could 'Do Lunch' with anyone, who would it be?

You? :)

Actually, there's too many to mention... people are fascinating; whether they're famous, friends, or the stranger in the seat next to me.

If you were to meet someone for the first time, what would be the "perfect" setting?

Wherever we both felt comfortable... the place doesn't matter so much as the person.

What is "SEXY"? What do you find "SEXY" in a partner?

Someone who likes themselves... not in a conceited way. Someone who is comfortable w/themselves, their spirit, their body. Someone w/a wonderful smile, eyes as deep as Crater Lake, a body w/curves, who's a romantic, etc.

What type of music do you enjoy? List performances or concerts you have attended.

All kinds (I think I said this earlier :). To be more specific: Alternative/new-wave, rock, classical, pop, blues, folk, etc.

Concerts/performances: I've gone to all the Lilith Fairs, the Oregon Symphony (and other symphonies), Sting, Natalie Merchant, Billy Joel, Kalakendra (Indian music concerts), etc. I pretty much like all sorts of music; though I can do without most really twangy country/western, hate-filled rap (or other hate-filled music), and heavy metal where they sound like their dancing on the guitar vs. playing it.

List some of your favorite lines from movies, poems, songs or commercials.

"As You Wish." --The Princess Bride

"Learn to love yourself, it's a great, great feeling." --Desree

"We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are." -- Anais Nin

"It is never too late to be what you might have been" -- George Eliot (the pen name of Mary Ann Evans, English Novelist)

"Two roads diverged in the wood, and I... I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." -- Robert Frost

"Now don't start that again..." -- The Jungle Book

What are your all-time favorite movies and/or actors?

The Princess Bride... and too many others to mention. For example, in no particular order: the Star Wars series; the Matrix; Like Water for Chocolate; Contact; Schindler's List; The Wizard of Oz; Indiana Jones series; When Harry Met Sally; The Holy Grail; Toy Story series; It's a Wonderful Life; Better Off Dead; Fantasia; the list goes on (and on and on and)...

Where do/did you attend high school and/or college? What are/were your favorite subjects in school?

High School and College in Oregon. :) I studied Computer Science, Architecture (major, minor) in college at the University of Oregon. I love computers, photography, film, acting, art, sociology. The list goes on again... (you get the feeling these essays don't capture all of me? ;-)

Where were you born? What is your ethnic origin or ancestry? List some of the places you have lived or traveled.

Born in Washington... so, yes, I do have water running through my veins ;-)

I'm Celtic (Irish, Scottish, etc.). Throw in German and French, and it means I don't tan. :)

I mentioned earlier that I've travelled many places. They are (in no particular order) Ireland, Scotland, England, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands (for a night), Thailand, Australia, China, Singapore, India, Jamaica, Canada, Mexico, all over the US, and probably some I'm forgetting. I've lived in Oregon my adult life so far, and yet have stayed briefly in many of the states in the US.

What type of work do (did) you do? How long have you been (were you) in that line of work? Do (did) you enjoy it?

I teach and consult. I generally enjoy it very much... Believe it or not, though, traveling and eating out in restaurants can get old. :)

If you could pick one super-human power (such as comic-book characters have) what would you choose?

Hmmnnnn... tough one. I think the ability to morph into anything I want; ala Mystique(?) of X-men fame.

After that, perhaps it would be to heal people; take away their pain, whether it be physical or mental... though I can't remember a superhero that does that.

Someone may want to say "hello", but not know how to get the ball rolling. Ask a question that someone can answer in their first letter to you.

Actually, a simple "hi" is great!

However, should you want more of a challenge, I'll ask you this: If you could have any job you wanted, what would it be?

What are some of your life-long goals? Where would you like to be in 2 years? In 5 years?

I'm pretty much at my life-long goals; except maybe learning to play piano. Oh, and traveling the world. :)

Miscellaneous

Email me and I might tell you... ;-)

Well, if you made it this far you hopefully have a better idea of who I am, and what I like...
