INCIDENT REPORT: (Mortus, 3rd Week, 4th Day)
Attempt to negate the Surprise!
Incident: Frederick Descartes of the Sign of One asked for Sanctuary at the station. He said the Surprise! is to flood Sigil with soapy water. He wants protection until he gives a speech about this the next day at peak. I agreed and assigned guards to him. The next day, we escorted him to the Hall of Speakers. A large crowd of many factions was assembled to hear him, including Factol Sarin. The Xaositects were amazed and impressed at Descartes’ speech, that he guessed their Surprise!. They wanted him to be their factol for a day. He refused, and told us he knew how to stop the surprise. Other factions spoke of their view of the Surprise!: Fated support stoppng it; Transcendent Order straddled fence, saying it should be regulated; Dustmen supported Surprise!, as did the Athar. The Believers wanted to stop it. Azrik informed me that I was responsible for stopping the Surprise! with Descartes' information. We return him to the station with an extra patrol assigned to help guard him. Descartes says we need to guard all water portals and make sure that he isn’t killed. He is a mage and will help. We recalled that the pool at the Sandstone Hotel has a portal glow (see RJ-1014).

Griffin’s hawk brought word that Xaositects and Doomguard were burning razorvine around the hotel area. Leaving Descartes at the station under guard, we took a patrol to the hotel. We encountered a group and were forced to join battle with them. Some were killed, 7 surrendered, 4 others escaped over the wall. I assigned part of the patrol to guard the hotel, and we returned to the station. On arrival, we found that a doppleganger had already entered the station in my guise to kill Descartes. We are able to trap and kill it, with no harm to Descartes.

A large combined group of Xaositects, Doomguard, Anarchists with tieflings, and two tanar'gre attacked, attempting to enter the hotel grounds. I called for reinforcements, and Mercykiller reinforcements also arrived. Zombus and Naomi were with the attackers. A tarry farastu was released from a bottle and also attacked. We lost one reinforcement who fell into an ooze puddle in the old fountain in front of hotel. After twenty minutes of battle, Boredumus, Bedlam, and Voronis appearred. Bedlam and Voronis attempted to enter the hotel, going for the pond. Boredumus attacked a Mercykiller reinforcement, missed, turned invisible and fled (see RJ-1029). I ordered that all means be used to prevent anyone from entering the hotel grounds. Corvan promptly paralyzed Voronis. At this point the Lady appeared and cast all participants into the Mazes.
