I just discovered that life is never meant to be fair. Ever since the fall of mankind, randomness of good and bad things happened to both good and bad people alike.
Ecc 8:12 "Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, .."
The loving architect died in the nicoll disaster. Christians died in aircrashes. Children ministry volunteers raped in new york. The 'selfish' guy in the company got promoted. The wicked strike the 1million Toto. The list is endless..
Justice
Mt 12:18 "..And He will declare justice to the Gentiles. "
The truth is, Jesus came to make life fair and just! He came and died for us, so that everyone who believes Him, no matter how hopeless is their situation, can find hope and life! Yet the kind of fairness and justice was never what we expected. God did not keep all the christians away from harm and pain while inflicting pain and punishment to all who are evil. But God choose to reward us in a different way.
Lk 6:22: "Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man's sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven .."
2 Cor 4:18 "while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal."
Notice that God likes to reward us with eternal stuff, which can't be seen with the eyes. A believer and a non-believer can be sick with cancer. But the believer has the power to choose to live his remaining life more meaningfully while an unbeliever will find it tough not to be bitter.
Died
I'm sometimes puzzled when christians remarked to me .. "What if i met a freak accident and died?", "What if i'm down with a fatal disease like Sars?", "What if the suicide bomber blasted me?", "ITS NOT FAIR!!!"
Phi 1:22 "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
If we somehow died, our true regret will be that we have not serve God enough on earth, and love people enough. The delicious japanese food cannot be compared to those in heaven. The 5 C's that have yet to attained faints in comparison to the treasures in heaven. The promotion to CEO can't be matched those in heaven.
Not Fair?
Ya life isn't going to be fairer when you become a christian, not in the sense of what we wanted. Sometimes God will choose to reward our effort with visible things like pay increment, good health, warm family etc. Yet He can seem to be far away when we are going through painful periods and crying out to Him.
God guarentees that if we put him first, you will find life rewarding and beautiful inspite of the suffering and pain around. Think about it. Think hard about it. And think very hard about it.
Mt 19:29: "And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life."
