Another problem that is often talked about is un-metered light entering in through the lever on the side of the lens.
I doubted this theory for the following reason.
Most lenses have openings , or to say again , lenses are not sealed to the outside world.
As you can see below , this lens has an often seen focus scale cut out and the little close down lever to the right.
These openings do have the potential to let light in , but manufactures know this , so they put a labyrinth inside to stop light from entering the lens.
This labyrinth is easily thought imagined when thinking about the entry to most bigger dark rooms.
There is often a series of non reflective walls that light cant get around.
This idea is what is most lense manufacturers use inside to stop light going anywhere its not meant to.

So what are the facts about the stop down lever on these lenses ??


Oh dear !

and heres the proof


Just look at the light pour through the lever opening.
Not only that , but there are silver mechanism inside just waiting to spread light around.
And even more , there is light entering through the focus ring as well !!

It appears that they did not even try to prevent this ingress of light.
